De l'Innocence

A chamber opera born from a series of conversations with Christine Angot. Not setting a theme to music, but finding a form that holds what resists language and narrative: the loss of innocence, the flooding of the real, the experience of inner fracture.

The project does not begin from a finished libretto but from living speech. Across the encounters with Christine Angot, it is fragments — sentences spoken, taken up again, abandoned, silences, hesitations — that become the work's raw material. The writer's voice, the way she stumbles on certain words and returns to what cannot be said, shapes the musical writing as much as the text itself.

Innocence here is neither nostalgia nor a lost state to be reconquered, but a threshold: the moment when the world ceases to be self-evident, when childhood collides with what it could not foresee. The opera seeks to hold that threshold on stage — a tight space, a small instrumental ensemble, discreet electronics — so that the listener stands as close as possible to the fracture, without explanation or distance.
