Born in Athens in 1945, he lives and works in France. A major figure of contemporary creation, he founded ATEM (Atelier Théâtre et Musique) in 1976 and invented a body of work where voice, gesture and language become stage material, from the Récitations to music theatre.
Golden Lion of the Venice Biennale in 2015, his companionship and influence accompany STOPERA!. His pieces are at the heart of the Insistir project, led by Nicola Beller Carbone.
